It shows our best wishes and our new goals for the coming year. New year scrolls are always red, because red means happiness and luck to us.
Spring festival is the most important festival in China since it is our Chinese new year. It usually lasts for two weeks, from the last two days of December in the lunar calendar of previous year to the next 15 days of new year. During that period, we have no work and no school, just stay with family and visit all relatives. To prepare the new year, we clean our house in and out, for every corner. Fathers are always the ones who put up the new year scrolls on every doorframe; mothers are busy preparing the feast on new year's eve while kids are dressing up the new clothes which mothers bought.
Mid-autumn Festival is one of the traditional festival in China, and is usually in October (always on August 15th in the traditional Chinese). One story about the Mid-autumn Festival is that long long ago, a leader of uprising spread his decision to damage the city of Yuan to his folks using a little round cake within a tiny piece of paper. Soon they won the battle. The little round cake became a very important thing for them. Since all these happened in August 15th when the moon was perfectly round, the cake was called mooncake and used to celebrate their victory. Nowadays the mid-autumn festival is the day to get together with families, enjoying mooncakes and the round bright moon.
